Here we can find the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion, one of the most important in Greece and known throughout the world for its unique collection of Minoan artifacts, the largest collection in the world. Herakleion is also host to a number of other noteworthy museums, such as: the Historical Museum of Crete and the Cretan Museum of Natural History, which offers activities for children. Finally, the centre of Herakleion is popular for its wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafés.

Hersonissos

Knossos Archaeological Site

Knossos, the most important archaeological site in Crete, is only 21 km from Gouves Water Park Holiday Resort. It contains the largest and most splendid palace of the ancient Minoan civilization, the first real civilization to emerge and flourish on European soil. During your exploration of the site, you can admire the complex and beautiful architecture of the royal palace, see the throne room of King Minas, the vast central courtyard, the royal chambers, the double-horned monument, the symbol of the Minoan religion, etc. It also makes sense to combine your tour of Knossos with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion.

Agios Nikolaos
